The Franz Josef beard is a mustache/sideburn combo that sideburns come down and then angle up sharply toward the mustache. This beard style is similar to the Friendly chops.
The Franz Josef beard is named after Franz Josef. Franz Josef was born in 1830. At the age of eighteen he became Hapsburg Emperor and in 1867, ruler of Austria-Hungary. Over the next few years his army subdued revolts in Hungary and Lombardy.
